Fruta del Norte Set a Record, and Lundin Gold Declared a US$275 Million Dividend

The US$1.14 dividend hands back all of the quarter's normalized free cash flow, while the company says the fourth quarter will be its lowest of 2026 and an expansion decision is due before year-end.

Lundin Gold produced 153,736 ounces at Fruta del Norte in the third quarter of 2026 and declared a US$1.14 dividend, about US$275 million, equal to all of its normalized free cash flow. Guidance is unchanged, the company expects the fourth quarter to be the year's lowest, and an integrated decision on the FDNS deposit and a mill expansion is expected in the fourth quarter.

A dividend of about US$275 million goes out to Lundin Gold's shareholders just before Christmas. The company declared it alongside third-quarter results from its Fruta del Norte mine in southern Ecuador, and the size of it says most of what the quarter did.

Fruta del Norte is a single underground gold mine with its own processing plant, and Lundin Gold has no other producing asset. Every figure in the release therefore comes from one orebody, one mill and one country. The quarter was the mine's best. The company reported in its results release of November 4 that production reached 153,736 ounces in the three months to September 30, 2026, up 26 per cent from 122,086 ounces a year earlier.

A record quarter built on grade and throughput

Two things lift output at a mine like this: how much rock goes through the mill, and how much gold each tonne carries. Both were high. The mill averaged 5,823 tonnes per day against a 2026 plan of 5,500, and the head grade, the gold content of the ore fed to the plant, averaged 10.1 grams per tonne. The December 8, 2025 guidance release assumed 8.3 grams for the year.

Grade is the larger lever. A plant running a few per cent above plan adds a few per cent of gold. Ore running a fifth richer than the 2026 plan assumed adds about a fifth against that plan, which is a different yardstick from the year-earlier quarter.

The company sold 148,326 ounces at an average realized price of US$4,299 an ounce. It reported revenue of US$633.0 million for the quarter to September 30, 2026, after treatment and refining charges, against US$447.1 million a year earlier.

All-in sustaining cost, the industry's measure of what it costs to produce an ounce and keep the mine running, including sustaining capital and corporate overhead, was US$1,037 an ounce sold. A year earlier it was US$1,036.

Costs held flat while the gold price rose. The gap between the two is where the quarter's money came from. In the three months to September 30, 2026, the company reported record cash from operating activities of US$376.9 million and free cash flow, the cash left after capital spending, of US$330.9 million, or US$1.37 per share. Free cash flow in the third quarter of 2025 was US$191.1 million. Net income for the quarter to September 30, 2026 was US$293.8 million.

The dividend formula, worked through

Lundin Gold pays a fixed US$0.30 a share each quarter and a variable amount on top. Its dividend release sets the variable part at "at least 50%" of the previous quarter's normalized free cash flow, less the fixed payment, at the board's discretion.

Normalized is the word that needs explaining. Lundin Gold pays its annual Ecuadorian income tax and workers' profit share in one lump each April; for 2026 that was US$221.4 million. To stop one quarter's dividend from absorbing the whole bill, the company spreads it evenly, US$55.3 million a quarter.

The working is short:

For the quarter to September 30, 2026, the board chose 100 per cent, double the policy's floor.

Jamie Beck, president and chief executive, described the payout in the November 4, 2026 dividend release as "returning 100% of normalized free cash flow to shareholders through dividends." The fixed portion is US$0.30 and the variable portion US$0.84. Holders of record on December 8 are paid on December 23 on the Toronto exchange and the OTCQX, and on December 30 in Stockholm. The company designates the payment an eligible dividend for Canadian tax purposes, which gives Canadian holders the enhanced dividend tax credit.

The previous quarter's payment was US$1.08 a share, or US$261 million.

A higher payout and a larger cash pile can sit together here: cash and cash equivalents were US$573.6 million at September 30, 2026, against US$507 million at June 30, according to the company's second-quarter figures, and working capital stood at US$477.1 million at September 30. Lundin Gold also bought back and cancelled 49,500 shares for US$3.1 million in the quarter under its normal course issuer bid.

The company carries no bank borrowings. Its largest liability on the interim statements for the period ended June 30, 2026 was a silver stream sold to LunR Royalties Corp. in May, carried at a fair value of US$690.3 million. A stream is an agreement to deliver a share of future silver output in return for money paid up front, so it is settled in metal rather than repaid in cash. The November 4 results release does not restate the stream's value, so the June 30 figure is the latest one given here. The third-quarter interim statements were filed on November 4 alongside the release, and the September 30 figures in this section are the release's.

The fourth quarter will be the year's softest, by the company's own account

One sentence in the release sets the fourth quarter apart. Beck said in the release that "fourth quarter production will be the lowest of the year," and attributed it to two causes: a planned shutdown of the processing plant for maintenance in early October, and lower grades as mining moves through the sequence the mine plan sets out.

The release describes the maintenance shutdown as scheduled and the lower grades as part of the mine sequence, and the company kept its guidance unchanged. The year-to-date numbers show why the company can say so and still hold its forecast. Production for the first nine months was 392,472 ounces, about 78 per cent of the midpoint of the unchanged 2026 guidance of 475,000 to 525,000 ounces. Reaching the bottom of the range needs about 82,500 ounces in the fourth quarter, about 54 per cent of what the mill delivered in the third.

Two other fourth-quarter items move cash rather than ounces. Sustaining capital spending is expected to rise with the sixth raise of the tailings dam and work at the Colibrí 4 quarry. Sales have also trailed production: 374,019 ounces were sold in the first nine months against 392,472 produced, and the company expects most of the unsold ounces to be sold in the fourth quarter. Those sales bring forward cash even as production eases. Cost guidance is unchanged at US$1,110 to US$1,170 an ounce sold, a range above the US$1,037 of the third quarter.

A tax bill under dispute

One unfavourable item sits in the release. On September 8, 2026, Ecuador's tax authority issued a notice of assessment for the "sovereign adjustment" for fiscal 2023, indicating US$154 million payable, including potential fines and penalties and excluding interest. The sovereign adjustment is the mechanism in Lundin Gold's exploitation agreement with Ecuador that tops up the state's share of the project's economic benefits.

The company says the assessment is inconsistent with that agreement and that it is working through the appropriate channels to resolve it. The amount equals a little under half of one quarter's free cash flow at current prices. The MD&A for the quarter carries the detail under commitments and contingencies.

The decision that sets the mine after 2027

No production target for an expanded mine appears in the company's documents. Neither the November 4 release nor the December 8, 2025 three-year outlook states a production target for an expanded mine; the outlook kept production at 475,000 to 525,000 ounces a year through 2028 and said 2028 could change depending on the expansion study.

The company has published a timetable. Lundin Gold expects to make an integrated investment decision in the fourth quarter of 2026 covering three things: mining rates at Fruta del Norte, mining at FDNS, and added processing capacity at the plant. FDNS is a deposit south of the existing mine that the company intends to bring into the long-term plan. The release says engineering and cost estimates for FDNS are complete, and that capital cost and timing will be disclosed with the decision.

The drilling behind that decision is under way. Maple reported in October on the company's latest FDNS drill results, including 124.27 grams per tonne over 11.00 metres of core in one hole. The November 4 release adds that conversion drilling at FDNS, which upgrades a deposit's confidence category so its ounces can enter a mine plan, covered about 13,834 metres in 87 holes.

The 2026 exploration budget is US$85 million for 133,000 metres. At Quebrada Dorada, the company reported a new epithermal gold system that doubles the known trend from four to eight kilometres. Epithermal deposits form near surface from hot fluids, the same family as Fruta del Norte itself.

None of that drilling is yet a reserve. The company's February 17, 2026 reserve statement put proven and probable reserves at 5.85 million ounces at 7.09 grams per tonne, effective December 31, 2025. The December 8, 2025 outlook said 25,000 metres of resource conversion drilling in 2026 would support updated Mineral Reserve and Resource estimates.

Where the shares stand

Lundin Gold shares closed at C$95.87 on the Toronto Stock Exchange on November 5, 2026, up 5.03 per cent on 914,508 shares, per end-of-day data read at 16:20 ET on TMX Money. The exchange's listed share count puts the company's market value at about C$23.2 billion. The results came out at 5:00 p.m. Pacific on November 4, so the session on the 5th was the first to trade them.

The quarter itself is easy to state. One mine produced more gold than ever, at a cost that did not rise, and the board passed all of the normalized cash to shareholders. The larger question is what Fruta del Norte becomes once FDNS and a bigger mill are priced, and the company has said that answer comes before the year is out.
