The TSX Venture Exchange is where Canadian companies list before they are big enough for the senior board. It is dominated by mining and energy exploration, and its defining feature is that most issuers have no revenue and fund themselves by issuing shares.
That funding model is the single most important thing to understand. A private placement at a discount, usually with half-warrants attached, expands the share count and caps the price until the warrants clear. Reading the dilution history matters more on this exchange than any earnings metric.
