Silver stocks in Canada
Live delayed prices for Canadian silver miners, streamers and royalty companies on the TSX and TSX Venture, with the difference between primary silver producers and by-product output explained.
Almost no large company mines only silver. Most of the world's supply is a by-product of copper, lead and zinc mining, which is why so-called silver stocks respond to the silver price in very different ways. The Toronto exchanges list the deepest set of primary silver producers and silver streamers anywhere.
The screen below flags which companies genuinely derive most of their revenue from silver, and which are diversified miners or royalty vehicles. Streamers such as Wheaton buy future production at a fixed cost, so their margins expand with the metal price without the operating risk of running a mine.

Frequently asked
- What is the difference between a silver miner and a silver streamer?
- A miner operates the mine and carries its costs and risks. A streamer pays an upfront sum for the right to buy future silver at a fixed low price, so it gets metal-price exposure without operating the mine.
- Do silver stocks move more than the silver price?
- Usually yes. Producers have largely fixed costs, so a change in the silver price flows disproportionately to profit. That leverage works in both directions.
- Where are Canadian silver companies' mines?
- Mostly outside Canada — Mexico, Peru and the western United States host the majority of the assets, even though the companies are headquartered and listed in Canada.
